Winter Storm Warning Issued for Northport
Heavier than expected snow hitting Long Island.
Well, that escalated quickly.
A winter storm advisory has been upgraded to a winter storm warning for all of Suffolk County as heavier than expected snow falls across the region.
The winter storm warning is in effect until 7 a.m. Monday with the National Weather Service now predicting 4-8 inches of snow across Suffolk by the end of Sunday.

Moderate to locally heavy snow will continue into Sunday evening and then mix with or change to freezing rain across Long island, the NWS says. Snowfall rates of an inch an hour are possible.
Suffolk may also see ice accumulation of up to a tenth of an inch.

The snow is creating hazardous driving conditions across the area. Numerous car accidents have been reported in Suffolk Sunday afternoon and the NWS is advising people to only travel in an emergency.
The precipitation should end after midnight on Monday, the NWS says.
