Woman Killed in Northport Motorcycle Crash

An SUV struck the motorcycle Sunday evening, police said.

A woman riding on the back of a 2008 Harley Davidson motorcycle was killed when police said an SUV crashed into the motorcycle and ejected her from her seat on Sunday evening.

According to authorities, a 66-year-old Northport woman was attempting to make a left hand turn into her driveway while driving her 2015 Toyota RAV4 eastbound on Fort Salonga Road, west of Sandy Hollow Road, when she struck a motorcycle that was traveling in the westbound lane at 5:35 p.m.

The woman who was riding on the back of the motorcycle, identified as 57-year-old Floral Park resident Martha Garcia, was ejected from the vehicle, police said. Garcia was taken to Huntington Hospital where she was pronounced dead.

Garcia’s boyfriend who was operating the motorcycle, identified as 53-year-old Floral Park resident James Losito, and the driver of the RAV4 were taken to Huntington Hospital by Northport and Centerport rescue squads ambulances. They were treated for non-life threatening injuries.

The vehicles were impounded for safety checks and the investigation is continuing.

The Northport Fire Department was on the scene four trucks and two ambulances, with an additional ambulance requested from the Centerport Fire Department. About 40 firefighters and EMS personnel were under the direction of First Assistant Chief Brad Wine.

Detectives are asking anyone with information about this fatal crash to contact the Second Squad at 631-854-8252.
