Woodbine Marina Expansion Plan in the Works

The may get a major upgrade in time for the 2013 boating season which would add 20 slips, according to plans currently being considered by the Town of Huntington.

The $1.2 million project would increase the number of slips from 34 to 54 to better accommodate demands, said Town spokesperson AJ Carter, who added that there is a 14 year waiting list for slips.

"The current plan, while not the final plan, would add about 20 slips which is about a 40 percent increase," he said. "The plans are being reviewed with the Northport Village Board and we're waiting for some additional input in terms of what they would like to see there too."

Northport Waterways Commissioner Damon McMullen said that the village is looking forward a new pump out station and to repairs for dilapidated wave baffles, which would require some dredging to remove large silt deposits on the south side. "We've been picking up pieces that have been floating out over the past couple of years," he said.

The village has requested that chain link fencing not be installed in the southwest corner of Cow Harbor Park because it would interfere with the view and added that the village will request that access to the marina's restrooms remain open from Cow Harbor Park. McMullen added that the Town has agreed to keep two slips at the marina for the village's pump out boat and the maritime police boat which are currently kept at the main village dock.

The town hopes to begin construction in the fall once the plans are approved.
