Xtra Gas Station Seeks Zone Change to Add Mini-Market
The station is on the northeast corner of Pulaski and Larkfield.
The Huntington Town Board has scheduled a public hearing for Sept. 20 at 7 p.m. to consider a zone change application for the Xtra gas station located on the northeast corner of Larkfield and Pulaski Roads.
The proposal would change the property from a C6 zoning category, general business, to a C11 category, Automotive Service Station District, allowing for a convenience store or mini-market on the site.
Although the Planning Board ultimately voted to approve the zone change at its June 29 meeting, the members initially voiced reservations.

"Our concern here is traffic congestion and public safety," said Planning Board Chairman Paul Mandelik. "This is an intersection with two main roads, and we don't think this proposal is applicable for a C-11 zone. You already have a 7-11 across the street, and a gas station on the corner."
That gas station, USA Petroleum, recently reopened after a long closure and has a mini-market on the site.

Director of Planning & Environment Anthony Aloisio stated that the role of the planning board is to review the proposal and present recommendations.
"We will conduct a traffic congestion and parking study of the area, which is 3.34 acres. We will also have a study on public safety," said Aloisio.
