Advantages of Flag Football
By Joe Palmieri, NSFlag.com
Flag football is a great sport for anyone. Kids of all sizes can get involved. Everybody gets a chance to play the game. Players receive more playing time time than tackle football because of smaller rosters. It could also act as a doorway into playing tackle football, a parent should make that decision. Players learn the same skills while remaining in a much safer environment.
It is a non-contact game that can reduce the chance of serious injuries. Football is ranked number one in concussion rates per sport so playing flag football can dramatically reduce chances of concussions.Players can wear mouthguards and are issued team jerseys.Playing flag football helps players to stay in shape and remain active. It also helps young players with understanding the “team” concept. You are constantly moving around in this fast paced game. Anyone playing is guaranteed to get a good workout. Different player roles could exercise different muscle groups. Players of all sizes, agility, skill level and athletic ability are welcomed. Unlike other sports that are difficult to master (Baseball, Basketball, Hockey and Soccer). Flag is a simple game where all players can experience success while learning.
The game teaches fundamentals while remaining safe. It is a very fair game that gets everyone involved. Quarterbacks are not allowed to run (except after they play action, a fake handoff) and are forced to make opportunities for their teammates. Our league stresses the importance of giving every child the opportunity to play all the positions, without presure. The rules of the game are designed to keep players coming back every year. This is a sport that could be continued for their whole life. Self reliance, leadership skills as well as friendships can be gained by playing flag football.
