Any Subzero Heroes in Piermont and Nyack?

There's still time to join or support the Alzheimer's Association Hudson Valley Chapter in its sixth annual plunge.

Once again residents of the Hudson Valley are going to take the plunge—literally—to raise funds to fight Alzheimer’s Disease.

The sixth Subzero Heroes is set for Saturday, Feb. 13 at Berean Park on Reservoir Road in Highland.

Sponsored by the Alzheimer’s Association Hudson Valley Chapter, the event is looking for participants and sponsors.

The Hudson Valley chapter provides support and assistance to people in the communities of Dutchess, Orange, Putnam, Rockland, Sullivan, Ulster and Westchester counties.

Subzero Heroes began in February 2010 when 25 people jumped into Freedom Lake in LaGrange, Dutchess County, while about 80 others watched. Nearly 1,000 attendees—including more than 150 heroes from the Hudson Valley and around the country—are expected to turn out for this year’s event, organizers said.

One of the Subzero Heroes for the last three years, Brittany Hackett Miller, had a piece of advice for anyone considering taking part in the event: Become a Subzero Hero.

She lost her grandmother to the disease and wanted to get involved.

“I know what my family and I went through, so I decided to help find a cure,” Miller said.

But if jumping into ice-cold water isn’t your cup of tea, the organization said there are other ways to help, such as becoming one of the Sidekicks, who help heroes with promotion and fundraising and offer support at the event.

Setup time for the event starts at 9 a.m., with check in at 11 a.m. The actual jump begins at noon.
