It appears that the accident occurred while the boy's neighbor was shooting off fireworks, police said. Many people were watching. One of the items apparently exploded prematurely. The boy was the only person injured, police said.
The Clarkstown Police Department is investigating the incident to determine the severity of the charges to be filed against the neighbor, a 47-year-old man from West Nyack.
