Cops: Congers Burglar Turned Stove Burners On
A Congers man who police say could have blown up a Nyack residence he was robbing is in Rockland County Jail without bail.

NYACK, NY — A Congers man who police say could have blown up a Nyack residence he was robbing is in Rockland County Jail without bail.
Orangetown police received a call at 5:45 p.m. Monday from a Nyack citizen reporting a stranger acting suspiciously in a residence.
Police found Giovanni Oliveri there. They allege he was in the process of removing items from the residence, putting them in a common hallway of the multi-unit dwelling.

Police also allege that the 44-year-old had opened the gas burners on the stove, filling the place with gas and creating a fire hazard that could have caused serious injury or death to the building's other residents.
Oliveri was charged with second-degree burglary, a felony; first-degree reckless endangerment, a felony; fifth-degree criminal possession of stolen property, a misdemeanor; and third-degree criminal tampering, a misdemeanor.

He was sent to Rockland County Jail without bail.
