Cops: Possible 'Skimmer' on Nyack ATM

The Orangetown Police Department is investigating the possible use of a “Skimmer” device on an Automated Teller Machine (ATM) in Nyack, New York.

If you or someone you know has used an ATM in the Village of Nyack and found unauthorized charges on your account, please contact the Orangetown Police Department at (845) 359-3700.

• Look out for unusual ATM signage. No financial institution would require you to, “Swipe your card here before inserting it in the card reader” or something to that effect.
• If your card is not returned after the transaction or after pressing cancel, immediately contact the financial institution.
• Check for anything that seems to have been placed over the keypad that moves, seems unusual, or does not match the ATM. Often times criminals use that instead of a cameras to record your PIN.
• Check your statements regularly to be sure there are no unusual withdrawals or suspicious activity.
