Cops: Woman Drove Drunk through Nyack with Daughter as Passenger

She's charged with a felony under Leandra's Law.

SOUTH NYACK, NY – At 3 a.m. Aug. 28, State Police stopped a vehicle on I-87 for traveling 96 mph in a posted 55 mph zone.

Troopers concluded the driver of the vehicle, Veronica Montalvo of Yonkers, NY, was intoxicated. She was traveling with her 11 year old child, police said.

Montalvo, 42, was taken into custody, transported, and processed at the state police offices in Tarrytown, where police said her blood alcohol content was determined to be 0.18 percent, more than twice the legal level. She was subsequently charged with:

  • Driving While Intoxicated with a Child in the Vehicle; a Class E Felony
  • Endangering the Welfare of a Child; a Class A Misdemeanor
  • Speeding Violation

Montalvo was arraigned before the Town of South Nyack Court and released on her own recognizance to reappear at a future date.

The child was turned over to a responsible party, police said.
