Cuomo Bridge Lane Shifts Start At 7 p.m., Weather Permitting
Will bad weather delay the opening of the 2nd span, put on hold Friday over the instability of an old Tappan Zee Bridge section?

NYACK, NY — Work crews plan to start the lane shifts for the second span of the MCB at 7 p.m. Tuesday. That's weather permitting, of course.
The shift was supposed to take place Friday, but was delayed while engineers checked the stability of a stressed portion of the old Tappan Zee Bridge.
The operation will be essentially the same as planned last week, except that it will start and end earlier: 6 a.m.

Exit 10 in Nyack will be closed at 8 p.m., to reopen at 6 a.m.
Westchester-bound motorists on the Governor Mario M. Cuomo Bridge should plan for multiple lane closures and brief traffic stoppages so workers can reconfigure the landings and stripe the lanes at both ends of the new 3.1-mile span during the overnight operation. There will be no lane closures in the Rockland-bound direction.

Following the eastbound traffic shift, Westchester-bound motorists will have access to four general traffic lanes and emergency shoulders. A dedicated bus lane will open this fall for eastbound traffic. The fully completed project will include shoulders and dedicated bus lanes in each direction, and a bicycle and walking path.
Rockland-bound motorists will continue to use the current four lanes on the westbound span. In the coming weeks, the four lanes of westbound traffic will be shifted to the opposite side of the span (where eastbound traffic used to be) to allow for construction of the bicycle and pedestrian path and its six overlooks.
This illustration shows the plan, unchanged (except for start and end times) from Friday/Saturday's plan.
