Field Hockey Advances, Volleyball Succeeds

While the high school playoffs are heating up around the area, one local college athlete is setting the record book ablaze. Brenna White of Mercy College is a freshman on the school’s volleyball team and while other first year players are fighting for minutes and playing time White has the opportunity to break a school and possibly an NCAA record.

Yesterday as White and the Mavericks defeated Molloy College in four sets the freshman recorded a career high of 31 kills, giving her over 600 on the season. No Maverick has reached the mark in a decade, and already White ranks third all time in Mercy history for a single season. With games left on the schedule she could find herself with the all time mark in no time.

White also leads all divisions in the NCAA with 611 kills on the year, and no freshman has ever finished the season with that distinction. Could make for a historical season for the Mercy freshman.

Highlights: Taylor O’Sullivan, Katie Cummings, Nicolette Paletta and Taylor Bertolacci each scored in Nyack’s win. Brianna Brickman had 10 saves for the team.

Sport: Boy’s Soccer

Game: Horace Greeley @ Clarkstown South

Score:  Horace Greeley Won 3-0

Highlights: The Viking soccer season ended as they were knocked out by the Quakers. Aldair Gonzalez had eight saves in the win.

Sport: Girl’s Soccer

Game: Fox Lane @ Clarkstown South

Score:  Clarkstown South Won 4-1

Highlights: Brianna McMahon led the way with two goals for the Vikings. Jill Murawski had two saves in the win.

Sport: Volleyball

Game: Clarkstown South @ Arlington

Score:  Arlington Won 3-0

Highlights: Arlington won 25-16, 25-17, and 26-19. Taylor Carroll had five kills in the win.

Sport: Boy’s Volleyball

Game: Clarkstown South @ Suffern

Score:  Suffern Won 3-0
