In May, the roof of the Bowline power plant caught fire due to heat from a steam pipe, News 12 reported.

In late July, after two incidents of black smoke coming from the plant, it was shut down. The cause of the first plume was an operator error which caused a violation of state pollution laws and the second a mechanical failure, according to Riverkeeper.
