The 2015 History in Your Own Backyard series has been made possible by generous contributions from Germonds Presbyterian Church and I LOVE NY.
Future trips in the 2015 series include:
SATURDAY, SEPTEMBER 19 – Trip #2: The Historic Cemeteries of Central Rockland. We will tour by bus several historic cemeteries, including Germonds; Martinus Hogencamp (where Jacob Blauvelt is buried); Mount Rest; Coe; Nanuet; and St. Pauls’s Highview. A knowledgeable guide will board the bus on each stop, presenting the history of each cemetery. In addition, we will learn about some notable people buried at each cemetery. Although we will be disembarking at two or three cemeteries, these stops will not involve a lot of walking. Our tour ends with lunch at Westchester Burger Company, 78 North Route 303, West Nyack.
SATURDAY, NOVEMBER 14 – Trip #3: The Pipe Organs. Our bus tour will travel to sites of several of Central Rockland’s most historic and well-known pipe organs, including United Church of Spring Valley; Nauraushaun Presbyterian Church; Good Shepherd Lutheran Church; Germonds Presbyterian Church; and St. Paul Lutheran Church. Experience the instruments as their organists present classical, sacred and popular selections. Our tour ends with lunch at La Terrazza, 291 S. Main Street, New City.
