I-87 Lanes Closing For Work On The Mario This Week
Closures will be staggered overnight. Demolition work will continue on the TZB [VIDEO]

NYACK, NY — River Road has reopened in South Nyack, now that the old TZB abutment has been demolished. But lanes on I-87 will close overnight Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday, as work continues on the Mario.
TZContractors will continue dismantling operations above the Hudson River this week, removing large sections of concrete and steel with mobile cranes, including the project’s largest crane I Lift NY.
The super crane is scheduled to be relocated near the Westchester landing and assist with removing a section of the old bridge’s steel. It will remove 20 similar sections of the Tappan Zee Bridge through next spring, the largest weighing more than 1,300 tons. I Lift NY will place the material on floating barges for transportation offsite.

The super crane will also assist with disassembling large sections of concrete and substructure. Many of these materials will be recycled. The New York State Thruway Authority will provide more than 130 deck panels units, each approximately 13 feet wide by 50 feet long, to nearly a dozen state and local municipalities to be repurposed for other bridges and roadways across the state.
After removing materials near the Westchester landing, I Lift NY will also be used to install 10 steel girder assemblies for the new second span of the Governor Mario M. Cuomo Bridge next year.

Demolition materials will be placed onto barges and transported to ancillary facilities including the Port of Coeymans in Albany County.
Roadway Preparation
Work continues on the new bridge.
The operations will require overnight lane closures Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday of New York State Thruway (I-87/I-287) southbound/eastbound traffic lanes from exit 11 (Nyack – South Nyack – US Route 9W) to exit 10 (Nyack – South Nyack – US Route 9W).
The closures will be staggered: one lane out at 9 ap.m., another closed at 10 p.m. and the third at 11 p.m. All lanes will reopen by 6 a.m.
Work will also require the overnight closure of the southbound/eastbound Thruway exit 10 on-ramp. Southbound/eastbound drivers will be detoured to the exit 11 on-ramp.
All four Rockland-bound (northbound/westbound) lanes will remain open during the operation. Specific lane and ramp closure times are listed in the chart here.

The contractor continues to prepare the roadway for the Mario's second span in Rockland and Westchester counties. To prepare the base of the roadway, TZC will continue to install precast concrete slabs near the new bridge’s landings.
The contractor promises noise abatement measures in the areas and continue to monitor noise and vibration levels as work continues.
