Indictment For 23-Year-Old Who Stabbed Victim 23 Times

She had an active restraining order against him

WEST HAVERSTRAW, NY — The 23-year-old who stabbed his estranged girlfriend 23 times at a Rockland County strip mall faces five charges from attempted murder to aggravated harassement.

Acting Rockland County District Attorney Kevin Gilleece announced Monday that Anthony Russell of the Bronx is scheduled to be arraigned Tuesday on an indictment charging him with:

  • One count of Attempted Murder in the Second Degree, a class “B” Violent Felony
  • One count of Assault in the First Degree, a class “B” Violent Felony
  • One count of Aggravated criminal contempt, a class “D” Felony
  • One count of Criminal Contempt in the First Degree, a class “E” Felony
  • One count of Aggravated Harassment in the Second Degree, a class “A” Misdemeanor

“The victim in this case was stalked and stabbed twenty-three times by her estranged boyfriend, whom she’d had an active order of protection against," Gilleece said. "Thankfully, she survived her injuries. The defendant now faces the possibility of spending the next 25 years behind bars as punishment for his crimes and to protect others from his violent outbursts.”

He attacked her near the Samsondale Plaza on Route 9W and ran away, but was followed by several witnesses, according to News 12.

He is scheduled to for arraignment before the Honorable Sherri Eisenpress. If convicted, Russell faces up to 25 years in state prison.

This case is being prosecuted by Executive Assistant District Attorney Richard Kennison Moran.
