Nyack Boys Tennis Opens Season with Loss to Clarkstown North
Nyack played up and fought hard, but could not defeat North.
Nyack boys tennis fell to Clarkstown North in their first game of the season on a windy and cold yet sunny Monday afternoon.
Nyack played up in the non-league match to face North. They played hard, but were unable to take home the win against the defending champs. For their division, Nyack is the defending champion as well this year. Opening up the season against a top school from a more competitive division, yet they showed why they won their league last year as they put up a good fight against North.
First singles Lyndon Nicholas and second singles Alex Satawa both fell 1-6, 0-6 and 6-7, 0-6, respectively. Nyack’s Scott Guinn won third singles by default because North could not field a player. Lorenzo Ramos and Ryan Kirsch fell in first doubles 2-6, 5-7. Michael Okamoto and Carlo Maghirang fell in second doubles 4-6, 3-6.

In third doubles, Nyack finally began to have some success. Conor Doyle and Ravi Vaija had fallen behind, but then rallied to win it after a long, hard-fought battle 5-7, 6-3, 11-9. Christian Buroni and Liam Rodriguez had an excellent come-from-behind victory as well, as they won fourth doubles 4-6, 6-3, 10-8.
Though they lost, their performance will only continue to improve as the season goes on and the wins by their third and fourth doubles shows the depth that they have available this season.
