Nyack Hospital Restricts Visitors as Flu Declared Prevalent in NY

Nyack Hospital has implemented a hospital-wide restricted visitation policy in response to Influenza being declared widespread by the New York State Commissioner of Health.

In conjunction with Montefiore and surrounding hospitals, Nyack Hospital is implementing the policy in an effort to reduce the spread and exposure of flu to patients, visitors, staff and clinicians.

• Visitors for all inpatient areas will be restricted to two healthy visitors ages 13 and older at a time.
• Children under the age of 13 will only be permitted to visit under special circumstances which will be addressed on a case by case basis or as ordered by a physician.
• No one who has flu like symptoms which includes fever or chills, muscle or body aches, sore throat, cough, stuffy nose, or headache and fatigue, will be permitted to visit.
• As a precaution, all visitors who enter the hospital will be encouraged to wear a mask, which are available at the hospital entrances and from health-care workers.

“Implementing a visitation restriction policy will help us to reduce the spread of influenza in our community,” said Chief Medical Officer, Anthony Matejicka, DO, MPH. “The safeguards being taken will protect our patients, visitors and staff from potential exposure to influenza. We appreciate the public’s adherence to our policy as we work together to combat the spread of influenza.”
