Nyack Woman Found Murdered Nursing Student

Her friends found the body of Haley Anderson, 22, of Westbury, laid out in an ex-boyfriend's bed.

The body of Haley Anderson, 22, of Westbury, was discovered on Friday by two friends, including Josephine Artin of Nyack. Services for the slain Binghamton University nursing student from Long Island have been set for Saturday and Sunday.

Artin told the New York Post about the grisly discovery. When Anderson went missing for more than a day, the friends called an ex-boyfriend, Orlando Tercero, and heard from one of his roommates that he had left the country. Tercero had been very upset that Anderson had stopped dating him, Artin told the paper. The two tracked Anderson's iPhone to Tercero's house, climbed in a window and found her body carefully laid out on his bed. Read the entire interview in the Post.

Her death was ruled a homicide. Police consider Tercero, a nursing student at BU who is a U.S. citizen from Nicaragua, the person of interest.

"Anyone who knew Haley Anderson knew how her energy lit up every room she walked into, whether it was our lives as her friends or the lives of her patients when she volunteered as a nursing student," the donation page wrote. "Haley's laughter was infectious and her child-like spirit touched all the people around her."

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Binghamton University's Decker School of Nursing. Gifts in Haley's memory are accepted here. For more information, please contact Rebecca Benner at 607-777-7322 or rbenner@binghamton.edu.

"Due to the unexpected nature of these events Haley's family is not financially prepared for the costs of a funeral," Anderson's GoFundMe page wrote. "Much like there are no words to describe the magnificent person we lost, there is no way to describe the way her family feels. She left behind a mother, a father, a younger sister, and a community that is still struggling to cope with her loss."
