O’Grady–Brown Scholarship Fund Accepting Applications
The fund honors the memories of 2 members of the Nyack Police Department killed in the Brinks robbery in 1981.

The O’Grady – Brown Memorial Scholarship Fund is currently accepting applications for scholarships. Scholarships are awarded to graduating high school seniors and/or matriculated undergraduate
The scholarships are available to students living or attending school in Rockland County and pursuing degrees directly related to advancing a career in law enforcement.
The Fund was set up to honor the memories of Sergeant Edward J. O’Grady Jr. and Police Officer Waverly “Chipper” Brown who were members of the Nyack Police Department, when they were tragically killed in the line of duty on Oct. 20, 1981.

They lost their lives in the Brinks robbery , but their memories are honored anually with a stirring ceremony—and through the O'Grady-Brown Memorial Scholarship Fund.
O'Grady and Brown engaged the Brinks robbers—members of the Black Liberation Army—near the Nyack Thruway entrance in 1981 after a $1.6 million heist in Nanuet. Peter Paige, a Brinks security guard, also lost his life in the incident.

Applications are available at High School Guidance Offices or at www.ogradybrown.com They must be submitted by April 15. Winners are announced in May.
