Piermont Salon Re-Opens For First Time Since Sandy
Cibelle Salon operated out of Nyack since Sandy hit nearly five months ago
Superstorm Sandy hit Rockland County Oct. 29, 2013.
Tuesday of this week, nearly five months later, Cibelle Salon reopened in Piermont for the first time since the storm.
“We’re so excited to be back,” said owner Agnet Dinger. “It feels like we’re home again.”
Around a week after the storm, Cibelle Salon started renting space out of Nyacks’ Pink Entourage, a boutique beauty and gift store that opened last November.
Cibelle’s basement flooded, taking out all of the salon’s wiring, along with its hot water heater and gas. Dinger said there were issues getting everything fixed and operational that added to the delay in moving back to Piermont, but didn’t want to get into further details.
She said most of the salon’s issues were fixed toward the end of December, although she’s still in the process of reactivating phone service in the salon. For the time being, the salon has a call center taking appointments at 845-359-2892 while they work on getting service back at the Piermont location.
“We were eager to get back to the Piermont location as quickly as possible,” Dinger said. “We’ve been here more than 22 years. My mother owned the salon before I did. We wanted to get back.”
Dinger said the relocation definitely hurt business, as not all their regular clients opted to come to the new location, but they’ve started reaching out through social media and emails to clients to let them know about the reopening in Piermont.
“We’ve gotten a really great reaction,” Dinger said. “People seem excited we’re moving back. We’re lucky to have really great clients. We’ve received a lot of phone calls about the reopening since we started to get the word out.”
Dinger said she thinks they picked up a few new clients from the temporary space in Nyack.
“Certainly not enough to make up for the percentage of clients that didn’t come while we were over there,” she added.
Still, Dinger is excited to be back in Piermont, where she has worked at the salon full-time for more than 15 years. She said she had never seen as destructive a storm as Sandy hit the salon and they had never had to move locations before due to a storm.
Cibelle Salon is open Tuesday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.; Wednesday-Friday from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m.; Saturday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and; Sunday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
