Putnam, Rockland, Westchester Communities Dominate 'Best Suburbs to Raise a Family' Listing

These Niche.com rankings show statewide and national lists. Is your town on one of them?

Great schools, low crime, nice places to live.

Those are some of the factors that make up the newest rankings by niche.com, which now says that 37 towns in Putnam, Rockland and Westchester counties are among the top 100 suburbs in New York to raise a family.

Our area is deemed so delightful, in fact, that we have four communities ranked among the best in the country! Scarsdale was ranked No. 1, Bronxville came in fifth, Larchmont was No. 9, Irvington No. 21.

And as for the New York rankings, 21 of the top 25 suburbs and 37 of the top 100 are in Putnam, Rockland or Westchester.

Understand: the rankings site did not include “distinct towns or cities” in its compilation. And Niche.com does not use the word “town” the way that we do, as you will see when you look at the list, which names as towns several of its ranked suburbs—including Greenburgh plus four of the municipalities inside it—but doesn’t call Eastchester a town, much less recognize the town-villages of Harrison, Mount Kisco and Scarsdale!
