REGISTRATION OPEN: Piermont’s 2nd Annual Apple Pie Contest to be Held on Sunday, September 28th
Approximately one year ago, 12-year old Grace Jackson won a glorious victory: Best Overall at the 1st Annual Piermont Apple Pie Contest.
This year, some aspects of the contest remain: It’s sponsored by the Piermont Chamber of Commerce and Down to Earth Markets. The region’s best bakers will submit entries made from scratch, using local apples, and include the recipe with their entry.

The 2nd Annual Pie Contest will be held at Piermont’s Down to Earth Farmers Market during the market on Sunday, September 28th.

The confirmed contest judges are renowned Chef Peter X. Kelly, Mark Tasker, Head Pastry Chef of Balthazar, and esteemed Piermont community member, Sylvia Welch. The panel will determine winners in the categories of Best Tasting, Best Looking, Most Creative, and Most Traditional. Then they will turn the judging over to the public to taste each entry and vote on Best Overall.
Tickets to register ($5 per entry) will be available at the Piermont Farmers Market on the three Sundays in September prior to the contest: the 7th, 14th, and 21st. Bakers can also register online HERE with the Piermont Chamber of Commerce. All are encouraged to join in!
Piermont’s Down to Earth Farmers Market takes place every Sunday, from 9:30 am-3:00 pm, through November 23rd. It’s located in the M & T Bank parking lot at the corner of Piermont Avenue and Ash Street. The market brings together local farmers and food makers who offer seasonal produce; pasture-raised meat, poultry, and eggs; fresh breads and baked goods; artisanal cheese; pickles; prepared foods to go; locally-roasted, fair trade nuts and coffees, and more.
