Special Service Saturday Evening to Mark Synagogue's Restored Holocaust Display
Everyone is invited to build community.
Congregation Sons of Israel will host a special Havdallah service Saturday evening, April 18 from 8-8:30 p.m. at CSI’s Yom Hashoah display, which has been restored after it was torn down by vandals.
Here’s what synagogue officials said:
We invite community members to join us as we close Shabbat and welcome the new week together. We are tremendously grateful for the support of the entire community. The local news, county officials, clergy, the Clarkstown police, our congregants, and community members have all reached out to show their support. We hope you will join us on Saturday night as we transition from the reflective state of Shabbat into a new and stronger week ahead.

U.S. Rep. Nita Lowey (D-Rockland/Westchester) issued a statement after hearing about the incident:
I join the Upper Nyack community in condemning this outrageous act of vandalism, and I hope local authorities can quickly investigate who is responsible for such despicable behavior. Congregation Sons of Israel President Sandy Abrahams is absolutely right – to have hate on a day devoted to remembering all those who perished in the Holocaust is simply incomprehensible. We as a community must stand together in the face of such intolerance, and be assured that we solidly outnumber those who espouse evil. We must not be deterred or distracted from recommitting ourselves to the meaning of the words ’Never Again.’
