ST. THOMAS AQUINAS COLLEGE Recognized Students at 2016 Honors Convocation

(SPARKILL, NY –April 25, 2016) – St. Thomas Aquinas College hosted its annual Honors Convocation on Thursday, April 7, 2016, inducting several students into various honors societies as well as recognizing those named to the Dean’s List.
Lanny S. Cohen (Stone Harbor, NJ), Global Chief Technology Officer and Executive Committee Member of Capgemini, as well as a member of the Board of Trustees at the College, gave the Convocation address and received the honorary doctor of commercial science degree. William R. Farrell, Ph.D. (Middletown, RI), immediate past chairman and executive committee member of National Association of Japan America Societies, received the honorary doctor of humane letters degree. James O’Connor (Naples, FL), retired wealth management executive at Bank of New York, received the honorary doctor of commercial science degree.
Dr. Margaret M. Fitzpatrick, S.C. (Bayside, NY), president of the College and professor of education, Dr. Maria Roglieri (Sleepy Hollow, NY), professor of foreign languages and literatures, and Dr. Michael Shaw (Mahopac, NY), professor of education, each received the Laetare Medal, which commemorates 20 years of service to the College. Julia Byman (Garnerville, NY), Class of 2016, received the Betty LaSala Award, recognizing excellence in science. Summer Lee (Brooklyn, NY), Class of 2018, received the Environmental Writing Award in Honor of Rachel Carson. Alyssa Hamilton (Southbury, CT), Class of 2016, received the Jon Roberts Award for excellence in literary studies.

Each honor society is committed to academic excellence in their respective areas. Societies inducting students at the Convocation included: Alpha Chi for general studies; Alpha Mu Alpha for students involved with the American Marketing Association; Alpha Phi Sigma for criminal justice; Chi Alpha Sigma for student-athletes; Delta Mu Delta for business administration; Kappa Delta Pi for teacher education; Kappa Mu Epsilon for mathematics; Phi Sigma Iota for foreign languages; Pi Gamma Mu for social science; Psi Chi for psychology; Sigma Tau Delta for English; and, Sigma Zeta for students majoring in natural, forensic and computer sciences and mathematics. Over 100 students were recognized for being on the Dean’s List in each of the last three semesters.
