STAC Soccer to Host Twinbill on the Road

The latest in local college sports.

The St. Thomas Aquinas College men’s and women’s soccer teams return to action Saturday in a scheduled East Coast Conference doubleheader against LIU-Post in Brookville.

The women’s game is set for noon, followed by the men’s game at 2:30 p.m. The LIU-Post men’s team, which features 21—count ‘em, 21!—international players, is unbeaten at 8-0 while the women’s team is almost nearly as impressive with a 7-1-1 record.

The Spartans went to 2-3-2 on the season with a 2-0 loss to Concordia College in Bronxville, in a contest held at Rockland Community College.

The victorious Clippers, including freshman forward Diego Escorcia of Mount Vernon, improved to 2-5-1 in the non-conference game.

The Spartans showed flurries of offense but were turned away by Concordia goalkeeper Ruel Gordon of Swanna La Mar, Jamaica, who recorded nine saves with seven in the second half.

Nicholas Palumbo of Allendale, NJ, recorded four saves in being tagged with the loss in his first start of the season as he backs up the seasoned Andrew Tartara of Bardonia.

Nanuet High graduate Dan Davren of Pearl River is leading the Spartans with three goals, while Sean Reilly of Monroe has two goals, and Brendan Flynn, also of Monroe, has one goal and two assists.

Leading the Lady Spartans (1-4-1) with two goals each are senior midfielder Becky Torres of Nanuet, and Nanuet High alumna Nisha Flinn, a sophomore from Pearl River.
