Weekend Winds Sink Construction Tug at New Bridge

Swells on the Hudson got up to 8 feet.

Here is a statement from the contractors building the new New York bridge:

Tappan Zee Constructors, LLC (TZC) successfully recovered one of its tug boats yesterday that was submerged Sunday at Petersen’s Boat Yard and Marina due to high winds with gusts of 75 to 85 miles-per-hour and swells reaching heights of seven to eight feet. There was no one on board the tug and it was properly secured for the weekend at the marina.

As the forecast developed, TZC proactively staffed the site in preparation for the severe weather and was able to address the submerged tug boat immediately. Working closely with the U.S. Coast Guard, TZC ensured there was no impact to the environment and continues to place the safety of our employees and the public as our first priority.
