Asbestos Workers Look To Recruit 3 Apprentices

The limited recruitment drive will only last 10 days.

HUDSON VALLEY, NY — The Asbestos Workers, Local Union No. 91 will conduct a limited recruitment drive from July 11 - 22 for three Insulation and Asbestos Worker apprentices.

Applicants must have reliable transportation to and from job sites located in Dutchess, Orange, Putnam, Rockland, and Westchester counties.

Applications can be obtained from Asbestos Workers, Local Union #91, 1024 McKinley Street, Peekskill, NY, from noon to 4 p.m., Monday through Friday excluding legal holidays, during the recruitment period.

This is a limited-application recruitment: The recruitment will be offered for 10 business days or until 50 applications have been issued, whichever comes first.

All applications must be returned no later than 4 p.m. July 27.

The Committee requires that applicants:

  • Must be at least 18 years old.
  • Must have a high school diploma or a high school equivalency diploma (such as TASC or GED).
  • Must take a medical exam, including random drug screening, during the probationary period. Cost of medical exam and drug testing will be at the expense of the sponsor.
  • Must attest in writing on the employment application that they are physically able to perform the work of the trade and pass an agility test.
  • Must purchase hand tools for use in required classes at the approved school and job sites as required. Tools will cost approximately $50.
  • Must purchase text materials for use in required classes at the approved school as required. Text materials will cost approximately $50.

Apprentice programs registered with the Department of Labor must meet standards established by the Commissioner. Under state law, sponsors of programs cannot discriminate against applicants because of race, creed, color, national origin, age, sex, disability, or marital status. Women and minorities are encouraged to submit applications for apprenticeship programs. Sponsors of programs are required to adopt affirmative action plans for the recruitment of women and minorities.
