Assemblywoman Galef to Host 2016 Senior Forum
NYS Comptroller Thomas DiNapoli & Putnam County Sheriff Don Smith will be Panelists. Other Experts will focus on Health and Wellness.
Assemblywoman Sandy Galef has announced that her 2016 Senior Forum will be held on Thursday, July 14, 2016, from 9 am-12 noon at Cortlandt Town Hall, 1 Heady Street, Cortlandt Manor. Breakfast will be served at Galef’s Senior Forum courtesy of Shop Rite of Peekskill. This year’s forum will highlight a variety of issues that affect the senior residents of the 95th Assembly District and others throughout the state, including how to avoid falls at home, doctor recommended exercises, managing stress using biofeedback, and many more. The event is free and attendees do not need to RSVP.
The forum will open with entertainment provided by Adam Love, a singer and songwriter from Peekskill, followed by Thomas DiNapoli, NYS Comptroller, who will talk about the importance of securing your pension and other issues that affect taxpayers in New York State. He will be joined by a staff member of the Office of Unclaimed Funds (OUF) who can search the OUF database for attendees to find out if they have any unclaimed funds and learn how to file a claim.
Putnam County Sheriff Don Smith will talk about new scams targeting seniors and how to avoid these crimes. Laura Palmer, the Associate State Director of AARP, will discuss the AARP’s 2016 Legislative Priorities. Kendra Negron, owner and founder of Dragonfly Wellness Yoga Studio, will talk about how to maintain flexibility using chair yoga. Dr. Surbhi Agarwal, an Internal Medicine Physician from NewYork Presbyterian/Hudson Valley Hospital, will share doctor recommended exercises for seniors. Meryle Richman, Senior Director of Ivyrehab Physical Therapy will share tricks on how to avoid falls at home. Lastly, Harry L. Campbell, President of Biofeedback Resources International Corporation, will discuss ways to manage stress using biofeedback techniques.

In addition, many local senior groups and living facilities co-sponsor the Senior Forum.
