Book of Year Finalists include Westchester Children's Author

Local author's story of heroics in the Tooth Fairy world is named a finalist for Book of the Year

Jane F. Collen’s new book The Magic Colors of Sparkleshire is a Finalist for Foreword Reviews’ IndieFab Book of the Year Award. This latest book in her award winning series is a prequel, about Jocelyn, the future Queen of the Tooth Fairies, and how she earned her magic colors. The Book of the Year will be announced this weekend, from the list of finalists at the American Library Association’s annual conference.

Each year, Foreword Reviews shines a light on a select group of indie publishers, university presses, and self-published authors whose work stands out from the crowd. Celebrating books published the year before, a panel of more than 100 volunteer librarians and booksellers determine the winners based on their experience with readers and patrons.

Ms. Collen’s series is no stranger to the winner’s circle. Since her first YA book in 2014 her stories have collected Mom’s Choice Book Awards, eLit for Excellence in Digital Publishing Awards, and prestigious Benjamin Franklin Book Awards. Full of magically captivating illustrations, classroom-friendly vocabulary, and compelling stories, Ms. Collen weaves enchanting tales about Sparkleshire, the world of the Tooth Fairies, as characters and readers alike learn lessons about self-esteem and overcoming obstacles to become ones true self.

The adventures began as bedtime stories Ms. Collen told her children at night. Today they play a part in classroom learning as the Fairies twist time to learn about historical events (in the YA novels) or the power of colors and courage (a focus in books for new readers). As the series and the characters grow, the importance of reading remains true throughout all her stories. “Everyone faces obstacles to happiness in their lives. I want all children to love to read, and through that love arm themselves with tools for coping with life’s misfortunes.”

Jane F. Collen is a mother, lawyer, and author from Briarcliff Manor. Sailing Back to Ellis Island, her 5th book in the Enjella Adventure Series, is a twist-in-time story about immigration in the US, available in November 2016.
