County Executive Latimer Endorses Ossining's Gearity

George Latimer visited Ossining yesterday to tour the downtown and officially endorse Mayor Victoria Gearity's reelection campaign.

Ossining, NY- With just one week to go until Election Day, Westchester County Executive George Latimer paid a visit to Mayor Victoria Gearity to offer his formal endorsement for her re-election and to remind voters of the importance of getting out to vote on November 6.

“Mayor Gearity has my full support for her re-election,” said Latimer. “Her progressive leadership is helping Ossining flourish. I look forward to continuing to partner with her and the village to serve the people of Ossining.”

Looking beyond Election Day, the visit was an opportunity for the county executive to take a first-hand look at the progress happening in downtown as the two took a walk along Main Street. Latimer commented on the beautifully maintained historic architecture downtown.

Their conversation also included suggestions for additional opportunities for the Village and County to work together to support the continued revitalization of the downtown, waterfront and uptown business districts.

“Now that HUD [U.S. Department of Urban Development] lawsuit is settled, the county is once again in a position to distribute CDBG [Community Development Block Grant] funding to communities like Ossining,” said Latimer. “The Village of Ossining has made good use of CDBG funds in the past, which puts the village in good standing for future awards.”

Mayor Gearity has called for the village to open up its Comprehensive Plan and engage the whole community in helping to shape Ossining’s future. Investment in infrastructure is a critical foundation for a thriving local economy.

Following the visit, Mayor Gearity commented, “I’m grateful for the support of County Executive Latimer in my reelection, and more importantly, as a partner for the success of our Village.

“Moving Ossining forward with an updated Comprehensive Plan that benefits the whole community requires partnerships with every level of government. I join the county executive in encouraging voters to get out next week. Elections matter,” Gearity said.
