CROTON-ON-HUDSON, NY — Tamera Taylor-Moore, a senior at Croton-Harmon High School, has been signed by American University in Washington, D.C. to play soccer.

American is a Division One school and thus recruits from among the top high school players in the country.

“This is a tremendous achievement that Tamera should be extremely proud of,” said CHHS Athletic Director DJ Goldman. “Only around 2 percent of high school student-athletes go on to play at Division One schools, so she is in elite company.”

Taylor-Moore was recruited by American University after the Assistant Coach for UMass Amherst soccer, a program she had had a close relationship with, took the head coach position at American. The university contacted Tamera to express their interest, and after her initial visit to American, she says, she was won over by the soccer team’s culture.

“I’ve learned from years of playing on organized teams that the teams who have the most success are those who appreciate the effort, goals, desires and pain each teammate puts forward and experiences on and off the field,” said Taylor-Moore. “I believe American is a program that reflects this philosophy.”

Taylor-Moore, who has been playing soccer since joining AYSO in preschool, has been a member of the CHHS Varsity team for the past two years. While she has primarily played goalkeeper throughout her soccer career, she played her most recent Varsity season as a midfielder to diversify her skills. In addition to the CHHS Varsity team, she also plays for New York Soccer Club, a ten-month league.

Taylor-Moore is a multi-sport athlete who also competes in Varsity track and basketball, although she is taking a step back from the latter this season to ensure her health going into spring and summer workouts. The pentathlon record holder for CHHS, she plans to try breaking her own record in the spring.
