Croton Spanish Students Entertain with Puppets
The sixth-graders practiced pronunciation and stage skills with a special performance.

Maria D’Amato’s sixth-grade Spanish classes recently put their speaking skills on display in a fun puppet show inspired by the book “La Vaca Que Decía OINK” by Bernard Most.
“After reading and discussing the story, the students created puppets,” said D’Amato.

The Pierre Van Cortlandt Middle School students chose which characters they wanted to play, and several students volunteered to be narrators for the shows.

“It was hard,” she said. “I forgot some of the words during rehearsal, but not during the show.”
“It was challenging to get everything together, but we did,” added classmate Jacob Aronson.
D’Amato said the first-time show was a big success and encouraged students to practice their reading and pronunciation of Spanish words, especially those related to the unit on animals.
“I thought they did a beautiful job,” she said. “They were so excited to perform for their peers and teachers.”
