Croton's Prescription Drug Take Back Day Scheduled for Saturday, October 22

Drop off your unused, expired prescription drugs for safe disposal

The Croton Community Coalition and the Croton-on-Hudson Police Department are sponsoring a prescription drug take back day on Saturday, October 22, 2016 from 10am to 2pm, at Croton Commons, off of 171-187 South Riverside Avenue and Maple Street, Croton-on-Hudson, NY. The last drug take back day held earlier in the year netted the most prescription drugs ever—an estimated 600 pounds.

The goal is to keep unused, unwanted or outdated prescription medications from being thrown out in the trash where children might find them and from entering the water supply since many prescription drugs flushed down the toilet make their way into drinking water. The collected medications are turned over to the DEA for safe disposal.

“The Prescription Drug Take Back Day is a national effort conducted on a local level in cooperation with the Drug Enforcement Agency and the Croton Police to safely and properly dispose of prescriptions. By removing them from the home, residents minimize the risk they may be found by teens or children,” said Laurie Dean, Chairwoman and Coordinator of the Croton Community Coalition.

For those who are unable to drop off their prescriptions on the designated day, the Croton Police Department has a prescription drug drop off box available at police headquarters at the municipal building.
