First Steps, an early childhood literacy program offered through the Ossining Union Free School District, has received a $25,000 grant from The Sexauer Foundation.

Focused on early childhood literacy, the program is geared to residents ages 0-3. Their goal is to “support and encourage literacy for all Ossining children from the earliest age in order to lay a good foundation for academic success.”

“Thank you to the Sexauer Foundation for your support,” Superintendent of Schools Raymond Sanchez said. “The importance of early childhood literacy cannot be emphasized enough. It is a pathway towards future success for so many children. Offering this critical program to our community would not be possible without the support of our generous contributors.”

For 20 years the program has been supporting families, specifically the communities’ youngest residents through interactive events and community partnerships. Three-year-old children can participate in the Little School, a half-day nursery school program. There are also opportunities for play groups, workshops and Mommy/Daddy & Me events. First Steps is also integral in connecting families to community resources.
