Galef Announces 2016-2017 School Year Internship Opportunities
Assemblywoman Galef's interns learn about the inner workings of a state politician's office, and gain many skills along the way

New York State Assemblywoman Sandy Galef’s office has announced upcoming internship openings for the 2016-2017 school year. These unpaid internship opportunities are open to high school and college students who are looking to attain experience in the workplace. Interns develop skills that are both applicable and marketable in the real world. In addition, interns receive valuable experience working within their local communities and throughout New York State. Internships provide a unique learning opportunity to students who wish to pursue an interest in the operations of government.
Each day, interns undertake numerous tasks that can include letter writing, creating press releases, researching legislation, data entry, and working on material for newsletters, forums, television shows, and other special projects. Interns also work directly with constituents from local communities to aid them in resolving issues that apply to local or state agencies and government entities.
In addition, interns are given the chance to travel with the Assemblywoman to Albany during the NYS Assembly session, and to other events like press conferences, forums, and other meetings. Through events such as these interns develop new abilities in communication and other areas that follow them for the rest of their education and career.

“Interns are an integral part of our office and the work they do is extremely valuable,” said Assemblywoman Galef. “I could not imagine our office functioning without the hard work and creativity our interns supply. Simultaneously, our interns benefit from their time here too because they get to be involved and learn through their unique experiences.”
“This internship has been a very positive experience and has exceeded all of my expectations. Coming out of this I have an improved knowledge of government as well as office operations and I have been able to grow my skills in communication,” said summer intern Rory Curtin.
