Hazardous Weather Outlook Posted for Thanksgiving Day in Much of the Hudson Valley

The National Weather Service warns that freezing rain could make driving dangerous in Orange, Putnam, Rockland and northern Westchester.

The National Weather Service has issued a Hazardous Weather Outlook statement for Thanksgiving Day in much of the Hudson Valley — namely Orange, Putnam, Rockland and northern Westchester.

THERE IS A SLIGHT CHANCE FOR A LIGHT WINTRY MIX OF SNOW, SLEET,
AND FREEZING RAIN TO DEVELOP AFTER MIDNIGHT WEDNESDAY NIGHT AND
CONTINUE INTO EARLY THURSDAY MORNING. MONITOR THE LATEST FORECAST
BEFORE TRAVELING THANKSGIVING MORNING...AS ANY FREEZING RAIN WILL
CREATE DANGEROUS TRAVEL CONDITIONS.

Still, it's only a slight chance.

"A widespread icy event is not likely… but with freezing drizzle, sleet, or very light snow… it doesn’t take much to cause potentially big problems on the roads," said Bill Potter of Hudson Valley Weather. "As it looks now… the majority of the area should wake up to dry roads and cloudy skies on Thursday. But there will be a chance of some icy patches… especially in the Catskills and northern counties."
