By the way, snow is possible Saturday morning in Dutchess County.

HUDSON VALLEY, NY — A cold snap will hit the Hudson Valley Mother's Day weekend. Arctic air flowing in could even bring some snow to higher elevations, meteorologists predict.

"The weather late this week to this weekend and beyond may seem unreal and downright nasty after the warmest weekend of the season," said Alex Sosnowski, AccuWeather senior meteorologist.

There's already a frost advisory for parts of the mid-Hudson Valley and the upper Hudson Valley, where the National Weather Service said temperatures will fall to as low as 32 to 35 degrees overnight Tuesday.

The Arctic blast coming next will send temps in the mid-level atmosphere plummeting, said Weather Channel meteorologist Jim Cantore, possibly hitting minus 40 degrees Celsius over the Great Lakes, a first anywhere in the U.S. in May.

For those of us at ground level, instead of in the 70s, highs will stay in the 50s. Lows will be in the 30s. Eastern Dutchess County could see some snow Saturday morning, the National Weather Service said.

"The crazy pattern is being set into motion by a break-off lobe of the polar vortex or a displacement of the same," AccuWeather Senior Meteorologist Brett Anderson said.

Meanwhile, record high temps are expected out West.
