Hudson Valley Risks Severe Storms Tuesday

The National Weather Service has issued hazardous weather outlooks for much of the Hudson Valley.

The National Weather Service has issued hazardous weather outlooks for much of the Hudson Valley. The problem isn't the fog, it's what's behind and above it, plus the warmer-than-normal temperatures. And, given how saturated we are, the possibility of localized flooding or flash floods.

Dutchess and Ulster counties:

There is a marginal to slight risk of severe thunderstorms for this afternoon and evening. The main threat from these thunderstorms will be isolated damaging wind gusts in excess of 58 mph. Thunderstorms should generally track from the west, toward the east at 25 to 35 mph.
In addition, locally heavy rainfall will be possible with any thunderstorms. This may lead to localized flooding of poor drainage and urban areas, low lying areas and small streams.

There is a slight risk for severe thunderstorms late this afternoon and evening. The main threat is from damaging wind gusts, but an isolated tornado cannot be ruled out. Locally heavy rainfall and minor urban flooding is also possible. There is also a marginal risk for flash flooding.

Southern Westchester:

Showers and possible thunderstorms late this afternoon and evening could produce locally heavy rainfall and minor urban flooding. There is also a marginal risk for flash flooding.

"As we get further and further into the day on Tuesday, and approach sunset… we could see some heavier rain showers moving across the valley. In short… expect lots of clouds, and patchy areas of light drizzle… even a shower or two, for your Tuesday," said Alex Marra and Bill Potter of Hudson Valley Weather. "It sounds like another gray, damp day."
