I Stand with Victoria Gearity Because She Stands with Us

Ginny Van Hengel Loughlin: Gearity encourages engagement and spurs creative dialogue so everyone in our community can thrive.

I met Victoria Gearity while volunteering for our schools; her kids were still toddlers then. Her passion for Ossining was clear, and she had already amassed a considerable resume of service here. Her commitment earned my vote in her first bid for Mayor, and I strongly support her re-election.

Victoria has opened the doors of village government, holding regular office hours and literally walking every street in the village to better know the community she serves. Progress has been made during her tenure: business start-ups, the Landlord-Tenant Relations Council providing education and mediation for area renters, good environmental initiatives, and continuing movement toward safe and affordable housing.

Sure, Victoria has been involved with some wrangling; change and new ideas almost always create disagreement. In fact, Victoria and I don’t always agree--and that's really okay. I’m looking for someone who can encourage engagement, spur creative dialogue so everyone in our community can thrive – and yes, endure conflict and stay in conversation with those who hold opposing views.

That’s why Victoria is the person I want as mayor of the village I have called home for over 30 years. Please join me in voting for her on Tuesday, November 6.
