Indivisible Westchester Endorses Goldberg In Democratic Primary

She is challenging incumbent David Carlucci for the state Senate seat from the 38th District.

OSSINING, NY — Grassroots activist group Indivisible Westchester announced it is supporting Julie Goldberg in the Democratic Primary Sept. 13. Goldberg is challenging state Sen. David Carlucci in the 38th district, which encompasses most of Rockland County plus Ossining in Westchester County.

The winner will face former Rockland County Executive Scott Vanderhoef in November.

Goldberg, a librarian, a former teacher and a mother of two from Chestnut Ridge, opposes Carlucci in large part because he was a member of the eight-person Independent Democratic Conference (IDC) that rejected the party leadership and caucused with Republicans for seven years.

Indivisible Westchester said the bottom line in Albany was that the IDC enabled Republicans to block legislation on gun safety, reproductive rights, election reform and other measures.

Members of the IDC dissolved the group in April. But years of sacrificing democratic ideals for sake of power has soured progressives on the IDC, Indivisible Westchester co-founder Shannon Powell said. “By allowing Republicans to tie up key bills, members of the IDC have not served their constituents well and do not deserve reelection.”

Goldberg says she will seek equal distribution of aid to the neediest schools. In its endorsement, Indivisible Westchester also noted her support for universal health care, campaign finance reform and other progressive causes.
