Kemeys Cove Fire Displaces 50 in Ossining
The blaze on the east bank of the Hudson River sent smoke high into the evening sky.

OSSINING, NY — A late afternoon fire spread through the apartments at Kemey's Cove on Revolutionary Road Wednesday.
All 24 units lost power, due to fire and safety concerns. By the time the Ossining Fire Department and helpers had it contained, 48-50 people had been displaced, according to the Red Cross.

Briarcliff Manor, Croton-on-Hudson and Millwood Fire Departments assisted.

"It was a fluid situation," said Caroline Sherman of the Red Cross. "Four volunteers were at the scene and others were working behind the scenes. Everyone was able to meet at the community center at Kemey's Cove.By the end, eight families lost their homes and 16 others were without power. We met with all the families and they all did have places to stay. We assisted one family with immediate needs."

"Everyone was working together, police, fire, Red Cross," Sherwin said. "We left our contact information in case someone needed us tomorrow, and we'll be on stand by just in case. If families do need assistance, we have volunteers on standby."
