Live-Broadcast Chanukah Candle Lighting from Palisades Center

It's the first simultaneous candle-lighting celebration U.S. military locations worldwide and Rockland County.

A community-wide Chanukah candle lighting will take place on Dec. 9, presented by Kosher Troops, hosted by the Palisades Center in West Nyack, and supported by many local businesses and organizations.

The celebration begins at 4:30 PM on Level 1 in JCPenney Court and the candle-lighting will take place at 5:30 PM.

The event will be broadcast live to enable Jewish troops and others overseas to join in the traditional Jewish celebration of miracles.

It’s the first simultaneous candle-lighting celebration in Rockland County and U.S. military locations worldwide, organizers said.

The event is free and open to the public and will include children’s activities, a letter-writing table for the troops, kosher refreshments, live entertainment and raffle prizes, as well as coupons and gift cards from Palisades Center mall merchants. The celebration will feature the color guard from the Rockland County Jewish War Veterans, elected county officials and local uniformed U.S. servicemen who will join in to light the candles.

Attendees are asked to bring non-perishable kosher food items for the Rockland Jewish Family Service’s Rhoda Bloom Kosher Food Pantry.

Kosher Troops is a New City-based nonprofit agency providing Shabbat and holiday gift packages to Jewish-American servicemen stationed in the U.S. and abroad. Many local businesses and organizations are sponsoring the candle-lighting event including Lord and Taylor, JCC Rockland, Jewish Federation of Rockland County, Jewish War Veterans and Rockland Jewish Family Service.
