Marcus Rivera, Jr.: Retired Corrections Officer

Marcus A. Rivera, Jr., a retired sergeant at Sing Sing Correctional Facility, passed away Sunday, March 24, 2013.  Marcus was born in Mayaguez, Puerto Rico, November 21, 1944 and was the son of Marcos and Isabel (Gonzalez) Rivera, Sr.  He was 68.

Mr. Rivera was an Army Staff Sgt. during the Vietnam War and also served in the Reserves until 2004.

He worked at Sing Sing from 1972-1999.

A longtime Ossining resident, he most recently lived in the Bronx. Mr. Rivera is survived by his mother, Isabel; his two daughters, Melissa and Elizabeth (Victor) Rizzo; five grandchildren, Tianna Rivera, Keanu Lynch & Elizabeth, Christian & Giulian Rizzo; and his life partner Socorro Lugo.

He was predeceased by his father Marcos and 2 brothers Robert & Edwin.

Visiting hours will be held April 1 from 4-8 pm at 14 Emwilton Pl., Ossining, NY .  The Funeral Mass will be celebrated Tuesday, 10:00 am at St. Augustine's Church in Ossining.  The Entombment will follow the Funeral Mass at Trinity Church Mausoleum in Manhattan.
