Mayor Gearity Demands the State Do More for ALL Ossining Kids

At the Ossining For Fair Funding Town Hall event with Senator David Carlucci this past Monday August 20th, I was reminded again of all of the many hats that Victoria Gearity wears. When it was her turn to take the microphone and ask a question, I was curious what she, the Mayor, would ask of the Senator. When Victoria started to speak, her question had nothing to do with being Mayor and had everything to do with being the mother of two boys in the Ossining schools. She expressed frustration and concern regarding her children’s education, and how their many friends from so many varied socio-economic backgrounds are being shortchanged year after year by insufficient funding from New York State. Victoria applauded the efforts of the well-informed community and demanded that the Senator do more for her kids, for allof Ossining’s kids.

Sometimes I forget that she is the only person on the Village board with kids in the school district. This does matter. There aren’t many parents of young children in positions of political influence. Perhaps if there were, we’d be able to stop working so damn hard for fair funding. That’s why I endorse Mayor Victoria Gearity for re-election. She’s not only a mayor; she’s a mom.
