
Catherine Stern Balloffet passed away July 19, 2015 after a long illness.
She was born on July 6, 1952 and grew up in Hastings-on-Hudson, N.Y. After graduating from Hastings High School she attended Beloit College in Wisconsin and SUNY Brockport from which she received an undergraduate degree. A masters degree in social work followed from Columbia University in 1980.
She began her career as a NY licensed master social worker for the Presbyterian church working at Riverside Cathedral. Later she worked at Westchester Association of Retarded Citizens at various locations. At Family Services of Westchester she ran the Enriched Housing Program at Maple House in Ossining, NY.

She was Office Manager at the Ethical Society of Northern Westchester, Ossining, NY, for five years ending in 2010. Simultaneously, she volunteered as a social worker/teacher at the After School Program at the Ossining Community Center.
Other volunteer activities included serving as President of The Greater Ossining Community Dialogue (“More Than Getting Along”).

She was a member of the Police Advisory Board and of the Ossining Planning Council/Communities that Care. She participated in the Outreach Committee for the Ossining Children’s Center.
She is survived by her husband of thirty years, Claudio Balloffet, and her sons, David and Nicholas and brother Eric Alan Stern. She is also survived by her mother Ruth Stern and was predeceased by her father, Arthur Alan Stern. Cathy was part of a large, loving, extended family and was a devoted aunt to many nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held at Leach and Thomas Funeral Home, 32 State St., Ossining, NY on Saturday, August 1, 2015 from 3 – 5pm. In lieu of flowers, donations can be sent to Search for Change, Valhalla, NY or to a charity of your choice.
