The New York State Assembly 2018 Session Internship

Applications available for Undergraduate and Graduate Students

The New York State Assembly has announced the application cycle for its 47th Year of the Assembly Session Internship for 2018 Legislative Session. Session interns receive a stipend of $5,850 for their participation in the program, a full semester of academic credit; attend notable issue policy forums as well as annual mock sessions, and award ceremonies.

NY Assembly interns are expected to serve as full time Assembly staff researchers and policy analysts. The assignments depend upon area of study, interest, experience, and the availability of supervision within the Assembly. Interns are responsible for fiscal analysis of proposed legislation and program budgets, researching and drafting bills and memos, and preparing background papers and reports.

The Assembly Internship also provides research and policy development experiences for up to ten qualified graduate students. Graduate Scholars are able to use their ideas and legislative skills to aid them in understanding the legislative process better. Graduate Scholars are required to attend Issue Policy Forms and are enrolled in a course taught by the professor in residence. Approximately one third of the participants in the Internship have moved into other positions in state government. The Assembly Intern Committee provides its students with a unique learning experience.
