New York Ties For Worst Commute Time In U.S.

The Empire State beats out almost everyone.

HUDSON VALLEY, NY — You always knew your commute was a nightmare, right? Californians talk about gridlock on their freeways, but recently released data from the U.S. Census Bureau confirms that New York is tied with Maryland for terrible traffic.

The American Community Survey done by the agency asked questions on more than 40 topics and compiled the results over the last five years. Questions included commute times for residents in dozens of communities in New York.

A Capital News Service look at the numbers put them all in a graphic from worst to best. New York ties with Maryland — home to two nightmare beltways — for the worst/longest commutes. California, with to traffic-ridden Los Angeles, is seventh on the list.
