NY Assembly Do-Over To Be Topic Of Public Hearing In Westchester

It's the only one in the Hudson Valley about redistricting maps mandated when courts ruled the Democrats' gerrymandering was illegal.

HUDSON VALLEY, NY — After the debacle of last year, the New York State Independent Redistricting Commission is holding more public hearings to receive feedback on its court-ordered plan for the state's Assembly districts, and one will take place Monday in White Plains.

The newest State Assembly maps were released in December by New York's Independent Redistricting Commission.

The first set of redistricting maps, for Congress, State Senate and State Assembly, were required after the 2020 Census. They were drawn by Democratic state lawmakers when the members of the state's Redistricting Commission were unable to agree. However, the courts ruled that the Democrats engaged in illegal gerrymandering.

All but the Assembly maps drawn early in 2022 were redrawn by a court-appointed special master for the 2022 election. In subsequent legal challenges, state judges ruled that the Assembly maps were invalid, too, and would need to be revised by early 2023. A final version is due in April.

Here is the draft map for the Hudson Valley:
