Obituary: Frank A Caterino Jr. Of Croton-On-Hudson

Active in the community, he was a member of the Croton Volunteer Fire Department for more than 60 years.

Frank A Caterino Jr. died at home on February 14th, 2022. Over his 96 years of life he kept himself busy with a vast array of community activities. Born on November 22, 1925 he was one of 7 children of Frank A. Caterino Sr. and Margaret (Landgraff) Caterino. He grew up and attended school in Ossining NY. He was predeceased by his brothers Larry and Tom, and by sisters Louise, Claire, and Margie. He is survived by his sister Bette Matero. He was married in 1950 to Dorothy Herterick of Croton who predeceased him in 1988, and he is survived by two sons; John Marc Caterino and Frank Eric Caterino of Croton, in addition Frank was a grandfather to Erica (Baldwin), Joe Caterino, Jessica(Grano), Christopher Caterino and Conor Caterino, and 2 Great-Grandchildren; Avery Baldwin and Vincent Caterino.

Before retirement he worked as a sheet metal engineer for a succession of companies, the last of which was Singer Kearfott in New Jersey. His job was to create metal cabinets for electronic guidance systems to be installed in military aircraft. Upon retiring in the late 1980s he spent his time doing lawn mower and small engine repairs, fishing, and building houses in Croton and Vermont, along with his many volunteer activities.

In 1956 Frank joined Croton Fire Patrol #1 of the Croton-On-Hudson Volunteer Fire Department. Throughout his over 60 years of service he served many roles including, Lieutenant, Captain, President, Treasurer, secretary and engineer of Marine 32 (swift water rescue boat). During his time there he played a key role in the construction of the new Harmon Fire House that sits there today.

He was a member of the Asbury Methodist Church since his marriage there in 1950, and served as a member of the Board of Trustees as well as caretaker of Bethel cemetery and chapel.

He was a member of the Croton Yacht Club and participated in the design and construction of the new Club Headquarters. He also coached a team with the Croton Little League and spent time at Camp Read with the Croton Boy Scouts. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him.

Visitation will be held on Friday, February 18, 2022 from 4-8PM at Edward F. Carter Funeral Home, 41 Grand St., Croton-on-Hudson, NY. A Funeral Service will be celebrated at 10AM on Saturday, February 19, 2022 at Asbury United Methodist Church, Croton-on-Hudson with burial to follow at Bethel Cemetery also in Croton. *** MASKS WILL BE REQUIRED at Asbury United Methodist Church***
